I was the full-time graphic designer and marketing coordinator (and one half of the marketing team) for V!VA Retirement Communities for four years. My first task at this company was to establish brand guidelines, such as choosing the colours for the logo so they would look great in both Pantone and full process printing, establishing a font and size that is easy to read for seniors and building templates for print ads, flyers, exterior signage and brochures. I managed all the marketing materials, from concept to design to ordering the final pieces. I was in charge of creating email newsletters, updating the website using Drupal and maintaining Facebook pages. I also did location and event photography. In my last year, I brought in an online marketing management system that allowed employees at each individual retirement community to order marketing materials in a way that was as fast and easy as shopping online. This system was worked out with a great print supplier who gave V!VA preferred rates and ensured that each location had access to marketing materials on the go.
I was able to grow from a purely graphic design role to adding marketing coordination duties that include copywriting, creating advertising schedules and handling invoices as we receive them.
